On August 19th, Ambassadorial Scholar Paola Reale of Italy visited the Morgantown Rotary Club. The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. The program sponsors academic year scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies.


On August 19th the Morgantown Rotary Club awarded seven (7) scholarships to Clay- Battelle High School Students. Five of the students we able to attend the award ceremony. Pictured above, in the front row (from left to right), are Lisha Watson, Ali Wilson and Danielle Eddy. In the back row are Dylan Opyoke and Nicholas Bragg.


On August 26th James Dean, PhD, Director of Extension and Outreach for the WVU College of Energy and Mineral Resources, spoke to the Morgantown Rotary Club about current issues in coal mine safety.

Weirton Rotary Club welcomes new District Governor, Ranjit Majumder

Majumder said the most important aspect of Rotary is its members. He said there are 1.3 million members meaning there are 2.6 million hands working through Rotary to make the world a better place.

On August 12th the Morgantown Rotary Club was educated on public utility ratemaking by Michael A. Albert, Chairman of the West Virginia Public Services Commission. President Lorri Grisell of the Moundsville Rotary Club presents fellow Rotarian Carol Miller with the Paull Harris Fellowship Award


On Saturday, July 24th, the Morgantown Rotary Club staffed the Soup Kitchen at Trinity Episcopal Church in Morgantown. From left to right are Bill Gaston, Ben Gaston, Diane Market-Gaston, Frances Riley, David Raese, and Andrew Hardesty. Steve Walker is behind the camera.

Morgantown Club Member Robert Brandfass recently visited the Bahamas and had the opportunity to visit the West Nassau Rotary Club. Robert is shown presenting The Morgantown Rotary Club banner to their club’s President.
Incoming Morgantown North Rotary President Pam Yost presents outgoing President Allen Sharp with a Rotary pin in recognition of his service at the club's meeting on July 7, 2010. Pam's incoming team includes President-Elect, Graeme Donovan; Treasurer, Roby Young; and Secretary, Jon McCurdy.


The Puerto Rican Group Study Exchange team was hosted by the Rotary Club of Tucker County June 3 – 6, 2010. The team visited Seneca Rocks, enjoyed a chair lift ride at Canaan Valley State Park, toured Canaan Valley Institute’s headquarters, participated in our local Health Fair, hiked and toured the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge, and danced one night away at The Purple Fiddle. One evening the team enjoyed a scrumptious meal with local talent hosted by Alice Fleischman. Luis Rodriguez sang acapella a beautiful opera piece for us. The team taught us how to salsa. Several members participated in several of the weekends activities. Lodging for the visit was donated by member, Chris Stadelman. Pictured is President, Lois Nelson, accepting the generous gifts given by the team and some of the salsa instructions.


Sarah Perry Meaghan Cochrane Morgantown and Saint Mary’s, W.V., natives Sarah Perry and Meaghan Cochrane have been awarded the 2010-2011 Rotary International District 7530 Ambassadorial Scholarship. Learn more by clicking on the pictures.

The Sour Mash Memorial golf tournament raised over a $40,000 for scholarships and capital improvement grants. Here Brittany Lincicome of the Ladies Professional Golf Association is recruiting a future golfer, Sarah Sisson. (She  is the daughter of Ed Sisson of the Rotary Club of Parkersburg.)

Over 20 Rotarians and their family members, from both the Morgantown and Cheat Lake Rotary Clubs, traveled via Amtrak train to and from the recent Rotary International Convention in Montreal, Canada.
