Interact is an international organization of service and social clubs for young people ages 14-18
that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship and promotes international understanding and peace. The first Interact Club was initiated in 1962 by the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Florida. Each Interact Club is sponsored by a local Rotary Club, which provides guidance and inspiration, but clubs are self-governing and self-supporting. The sponsoring Rotarians act as advisors and oversee club obligations. Each year, Interact Clubs complete a community service project and a project that furthers international understanding and goodwill. Today, there are more than 5,400 Interact Clubs in some 93 countries. The make-up of the Clubs vary: some are all male or female; while others are mixed. The membership base of a club can be drawn from the students of a single school, or from multiple schools or from the community. | |
