DG 2011-2012
Issue 2 September 2010

Greetings to all Rotarians in District 7530 and your families and friends:

The primary purpose for writing this “DGE Corner” is to plan for Rotary year 2011-12. One of the first things to be done is to assemble our District Leadership and Committees. And like most projects, some things are easy and other items require a little more thought.

The easy part first:

+Each club elects a President for the 2011-12 year along with a Secretary, Treasurer and other officers. They are called Club President-Elect (PE) until July 1, 2011. The club officers should be entered into the Rotary International’s records and into the District 7530’s Database by January 1, 2011.

+Assistant Governors should be selected for each of our eight Areas:
  • Area I Weirton Heights, Northern Hancock County, Weirton and Brooke County
  • Area II Wheeling, Moundsville, New Martinsville and Ohio County
  • Area III Spencer, Parkersburg, Point Pleasant, Ripley and Wood County
  • Area IV Buckhannon, Braxton County and Weston Area V Elkins and Tucker County
  • Area VI Bridgeport, South Fairmont, Clarksburg, Harrison County and Fairmont
  • Area VII Newburg, Kingwood and Grafton
  • Area VIII Cheat Lake, Morgantown North, Westover and Morgantown

Some Assistant Governors carry over from the previous year and others move on to other district jobs. There are always vacancies. Check with the Assistant Governor in your area.

It gets a little tougher to fill other positions on the District Leadership Team because some are appointed for specific tenure requirements. Some team members love what they are doing and are re-appointed by the District Governor each year. Rotary is an organization that has many long term plans and goals and yet most of our leadership turns over every year.

There are open positions on the Foundation and Membership Committees. We will need help at PETS and the District Conference in various capacities. The Grants Committee, youth programs and Group Study Exchange always need assistance. Or you may have an interest in another area.

So for the Rotary year 2011-12, I am asking for persons having an interest in any district leadership role to volunteer or nominate themselves or others to serve in any district capacity . Maybe you have always wanted to do something to help but just have not been asked. Now is your chance to make your interests known! Send an e-mail to c.ed.powell@comcast.net expressing your wiliness to be a leader in the district.

The new Strategic Plan from Rotary International has as its first pillar of three:

Supporting and Strengthening Rotary Clubs

This includes:

  • Foster club innovation and flexibility
  • Balance activities in all Avenues of Service
  • Promote membership diversity
  • Improve member recruitment and retention
  • Develop leaders
  • Extend Rotary
  • Encourage strategic planning at club and district levels.

Volunteer to strengthen our Clubs and the District leadership! Mark your calendars!

  • PETS (President-Elect Training Seminar) is scheduled for March 25-26, 2011.

More articles and event dates forthcoming! Watch for them in “DaCdb” (District and Club Database) and at www.rotary7530.org .

You can access DaCdb from www.rotary7530.org. Scroll down the left side to “DaCdb Member LOGIN”. Your User Name is usually your e-mail address and your password is usually you Rotary member number which can be found on Rotarian magazine. You may have changed username and password previously. A tutorial on using the database is the next item down on left side called Database "How To" iVideos . Review the tutorials! Rich Clemens, Clark Reese and I will be more than happy to help if you are having difficulty logging in to DaCdb.

More information on using DaCdb, and how it benefits your Club and the District, will be in DGE Corner next month. Please learn how to use this database. If members of your club do not have Internet access, please appoint one member to be the “Club Communications Officer” who can gather the information and pass it on to the club. Let us know who this person is, if appointed. Every club should have a designated “Club Communications Officer”. I hope to use DaCdb extensively during 2011-12.

As always, communications is a two way avenue. Any feedback or suggestions will be welcome.

Enjoy the Fall season!
